THE GYROTONIC® AND GYROKINESIS® METHODS

The Gyrotonic® and Gyrokinesis® methods are complementary exercise systems, both developed by Juliu Horvath, a professional dancer of Romanian origin and Hungarian ethnicity. Horvath suffered a series of debilitating injuries during his career, which led him to develop these methods as a form of self-therapy to regain his strength and agility.

Gyrotonic® exercises are performed on uniquely designed equipment, while Gyrokinesis® exercises are practiced on a mat and a chair. Both Gyrotonic® and Gyrokinesis® exercise sequences are composed of circular and spiraling movements that flow smoothly in rhythmic repetitions accompanied by specific breathing patterns. Each movement transitions seamlessly into the next, allowing the joints to move through their natural range of motion without jarring or compression. These carefully designed sequences promote balance, agility, strength, and flexibility.

The Gyrotonic® Expansion System has built a global community of more than 15,000 instructors teaching Gyrotonic® and Gyrokinesis® in over 80 countries.
